Replace Missing Teeth With a Bridge
Do you want to restore your smile with a dental bridge? We’re proud to offer outstanding bridge treatment to patients in Plymouth.
Bridges for Your Missing Teeth
If you live in the Plymouth area and have missing teeth, a bridge may be a good option for you if you can maintain good oral hygiene.
Bridges correct your bite, which improves your chewing and speech. It will improve your face, too, by keeping your features from collapsing and preventing premature wrinkles and age lines.
A bridge “bridges” the space between two teeth using a dental appliance that replaces one or more natural missing teeth.
Fixed bridges are cemented to your surrounding teeth on either side of the missing space. Bridges are permanent, unlike removable partial dentures.
The Dental Bridge Process
First, your dentist at Boger Dental will assess your dental issue to determine the type of dental bridge that will best meet your needs.
For a traditional fixed bridge, your dentist at Boger Dental will take impressions of your adjacent teeth so we can make the metal framework that will hold the replacement tooth.
Your final bridge is fitted over your teeth at your second appointment at our Plymouth office.
Your total treatment time at Boger Dental is usually between two or four weeks, depending on the type of bridge.
Once the permanent cap is bonded over your damaged tooth, all you have to do is practice good oral hygiene.
Advantages of Dental Crowns
Tooth Support
While dental veneers only conceal the front of a tooth, dental crowns cover the entire damaged tooth. It’s a more effective way to restore the functionality and strength of a tooth.
That’s pretty important when you consider that up to 150-200 lbs. of pressure is put on your teeth while you chew.
Long-Lasting Solution
Dental crowns are designed to last several years when accompanied by good oral hygiene.
On average, they last at least ten years, but generally much longer, depending on the type of crown and oral health of the patient.
Tooth Preservation
Dental crowns seal the damaged teeth off from bacteria in the saliva that can cause teeth to deteriorate.
They can also hold together cracked teeth, preserving their functionality.
Natural-Looking Results
Our Plymouth dental lab can custom mold dental crowns that closely match the curves and shape of your other teeth.

Versatile
In addition to tooth protection and restoration, dental crowns can be used in connection with a variety of other cosmetic dentistry procedures at Boger Dental.
Choosing Your Dental Crown
There are three basic types of dental crowns composed of different materials:
- All-ceramic crowns
- Gold alloy crowns
- Porcelain crowns
Each type of crown is best suited to a specific area of your mouth, in addition to aesthetic considerations and how strong they need to be.
At your initial consultation, we’ll assess your situation and decide together what type of dental crown can do the most to enhance your smile.
All-Ceramic Crowns or All-Porcelain Crowns
Benefits
- Translucent quality makes them the most natural-looking
- Metal-free
- Great for front and back teeth because they're most aesthetically pleasing
- Work well in small spaces
Drawbacks
- None
Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal Crowns
Benefits
- Metal core makes them stronger and more durable
- Most aesthetically pleasing choice next to the all-ceramic crown
- Strength and esthetics combined into one crown make it more versatile
Drawbacks
- Metal rim can be exposed as gums recede
- Wear on opposing teeth
- Porcelain can chip or break
- Metal core decreases the natural translucent look of the tooth
Gold Alloy Crowns
Benefits
- Provide support and durability
- Long-lasting
- A great choice for posterior teeth or those who grind and clench their teeth
Drawbacks
- Less aesthetically pleasing because it is completely composed of metal
- Not as popular because they do not look as natural
