Life Events for a Brighter Smile

The American Association of Cosmetic Dentists says that “virtually all Americans (99.7%) believe a smile is an important social asset.” While teeth whitening is becoming more and more popular, most people tend to get their teeth whitened due to discoloration. Still, there are quite a few who use special occasions to invest their money into a brighter smile! Here are four special life events where you might want to consider having your teeth professionally whitened.

1. Joyful Weddings

Weddings are joyous events that involve lots of photos and family time. So, when you’re planning on celebrating that beautiful big day, make sure your smile is also bright and white just like the brides’ dress. While you won’t want to indulge too much on the white wedding cake, you can at least make your smile brighter with the help of in-office teeth whitening treatments before you tie the knot.

2. Graduations and Job Interviews

The school year is officially here, and as you make your way through the educational field for success, you’ll want to do something special and have a brighter smile once graduation rolls around. You’ll be taking lots of photos and celebrating your accomplishment, so why not have your teeth whitened professionally?

Job interviews are another opportunity where your teeth will want to shine. According to a 2012 survey, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry found that “three‐quarters (74%) of adults feel an unattractive smile can hurt a person’s chances for career success.” Once you’re out in the working world, invest in your smile with teeth whitening products.

3. Celebrate Retirement

You’ve spent your whole life working and now that your retirement is coming up, think about treating yourself with a whiter smile! Retirement means you’ll have a lot more time on your hands to spend with those you love and do things you couldn’t do during your work hours. There is nothing more rewarding than giving yourself an even more significant confidence boost while you enjoy some of the best years of your life.

4. After Kids

Kids are lovely and a joy to have in life, but if you and your partner have decided that you’re done reproducing, give yourself a reason to smile more. We understand that when you have children, a lot of your extra money goes to them. Once they’re all grown up and ready for their independence, treat yourself to a set of pearly whites from the dentist.

When Should You Whiten Your Teeth for a Special Occasion?

Whether you opt for in-office whitening or at-home trays to use, it’s best to get your teeth whitened about a month before the time you need it! The reason you want to wait roughly a month is due to the temporary sensitivity that you may experience. If you’re using whitening gel or trays, you may also experience gingival irritation (swollen and irritated gums) which is temporary and will go away after stopping treatment.

We also recommend that you take care of any necessary dental appointments a few months in advance in case something comes up and you need a procedure done. It’s also important to have your teeth cleaned (routine cleaning or maintenance) at the dental office prior to bleaching. As you’ll want to get the best coverage and overall result after having any tartar and plaque removed before bleaching.
